VirginWorlds MMO (www.virginworlds.com) has great Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures news, photos, videos and more
Casey is back yet again to bring a fresh, steaming helping of MMO news. This week we'll tell you about a possible hint towards the release schedule for Guild Wars 2, a bunch of news about the game we all know too well, World of Warcraft, and how you can get a beta code for The Secret World by playin...
Or maybe this is what Funcom believes, and they think gold will pour out of their a** if they continue to not update Age of Conan and just sit silently as their financials show progress is downward. The fact that Funcom is siphoning off Cash on Hand, this bodes ill for their continued efforts.
Funcom remains optimistic, though, thanks to numerous upcoming projects. The Secret World is reported to be "progressing well", Age of Conan is planning a launch in Korea, the "Rise of the Godslayer" expansion for AoC is on its way, and Funcom recently received a grant to create an extrem...

Funcom has announced some new incentives for former players to return to Age of Conan. Chief among the enticements is the double XP boost throughout the month of November. Check out the details!
In an attempt, possibly last ditch effort, at regaining Age of Conan’s hundreds-of-thousands of lost subscribers Funcom has announced some brand new incentives. For starters, there’s double experience gain through the end of the month. Should you continue to subscribe for two month...

As anyone who has been following Age of Conan for the last few months knows, Funcom is working hard to get their MMO back on the top of everyone's playlists. Launch-day bugs have been fixed and they're focusing on more incentives to get players back into their game.
Me: “My armor crafting seems to be stuck at 28 – no matter how much I craft these stupid t-shirts my score won’t rise.” FE Dev.: “We did…” Me: “No you didn’t.” Me: “Well…yes.” Me: “Well…no.” Me: “How so?” See you online Side Notes Now THAT'S Music!
This time around, the 3rd quarter financials are due November 12th of 2009. Luckily Funcom came through and patched Age of Conan. But, they also made the mistake of introducing a multitude of bugs. Then again, they recently lowered the monthly subs for multiple month subscribers...so, could t...
Looks like Gamestop and Barnes and Noble are worried about Age of Conans longevity as well as me. 60 Day Game cards, normally 30 bucks, now going for $12.99 B&N Price Drop Gamestop drops price of AoC time cards Ouch!
From July and on, Funcom started a MAJOR revamp of the classes in Age of Conan. Melee took some hits as their capabilities were diminished. Casters were spiked to be more powerful and even sometimes harder to kill.A disconnect took place over the issue of Stamina versus Mana (Stamina runs out...
In between navigating the sometimes-choppy waters of Age of Conan and working toward the launch of The Secret World, Funcom is having a busy year, but it looks like they are adding one more project to the pile as well. Work on the project is expected to begin in January 2010, and we can expect m...
Combat Traditional is always better. Age of Conan, Darkfall, and even Fallen Earth’s (even though FE’s isn’t terrible) combat illustrates that nothing is better than traditional. For those having a hard time understanding, just think about the basics of WoW’s combat system or EQ’s co...
PvP I like to break the PvP elements in Aion into pretty much 3 different categories. First you have your rift PvP into enemy territory, then the fortress fights, and finally your small scale encounters that occur in the Abyss. 1) Rift PvP 2) Fortress Battles 3) Small Scale PvP
The sound production in video games seems to be one of those odd dichotomies in that no one seems to notice it until it is done poorly. I know there are those of our readers out there who pay little attention to the sound. In fact it was just the other day I read the following in guild chat:

Age of Conan's issues have all been explained now..We understand why the game is where it is at! From Craig Morrisons blog...(Source) Alas there is one thing I am bad...really bad...at and that is actually finishing work."

Age of Conan truly has hit rock bottom. Ongoing issues and then new bugs as well causes the game to become an almost unplayable mess. Age of Conan is just on it's last legs. Age of Conan developers are back with new updates and content for their Hyborian MMO, introducing a brand new quest zone: The Iron Tower and much more. Screens and details after the jump!

The point is that I am not afraid to admit that I'm just human. I make mistakes, I get hurt, I get angry, I react, just like everybody else does. And I do have a social relationship with my "community", however you want to define it. There are rules, but there is also respect, and mutual appreciati...
For whatever reason, MMO gamers have a low opinion of prisons. We always seem to assume that rather than being filled with fuming criminals kept under strict control, every one you venture through will be full of escaped criminals staging an elaborate prison break. Then again, it does have...

Continuing today's theme of Halloween-related MMO events, WarCry has discovered Age of Conan's "Night of Lost Souls". The event will reward players with some really nifty stuff so be sure to keep reading!
With two brand new solo quests, and an additional team quest, players will have to track down and defeat three Lost Souls. The quests will take you to places you thought you knew, but this time of year casts a shadow over things you once found familiar.
This is a really tough situation right now for Craig, with updates being few and far between for Age of Conan, layoffs, subs seeming to disappear (based on visual acuity as well as sources like Xfire).
If you're curious about the direction that Age of Conan's PvP is going right now, both in the near future and with the upcoming expansion, the interview should provide a meaty read. And if after that you feel the urge to pick up your sword and go find someone unsuspecting to test it on, well, so...

Ethalos of course travels with the family pack, and progression is FAST due to being grouped and being able to tackle quests quickly and efficiently. We have been in Kheshatta, but have still some quests in Atzels Fortress zone. But, all of this is moot, as the big news is the Guild City.
Tomorrow, October 7th, Age of Conan will come down for maintenance. This in itself is not bizarre. What IS bizarre is first...we had maintenance last week. We have never had more than one maintenance in a month... except once.
Anyways, I have been having a Twitter discussion with Sevenwind, another regular player of AoC, as he has seen someone start a thread called "Another reason not to play...Age of Conan - Economy". Platinum, one of the more expensive crafting pieces needed to make the "Culture" armor I noted ab...

Not too much loss there. But still, noting how washed out some of the screens look. This seems odd. I tried adjusting gamma and contrast, colorization...but not with too much luck. Also of note (which does not show up in the screenshots) is a strange "sparkle" to textures the further out they are. Funcom has announced a 20% reduction in staff as well as the delay of the just-announced "The Secret World", though the Age of Conan expansion is still on track. Read the official (and short...) press release.
Hey all...before I forget, I am finalizing my report on the next system in class performance for Age of Conan...an Nvidia GTX260, E8400 and 4 gigs DDR3.
But, talk about insanity. The Simple Complexities guild (our small family guild) finally hit level 70 (our characters did anyways). When we went to go about doing crafting for the level 70 quests...we hit a snag.Seems most of the goods we need to craft must have a guild city in place with Tier 1 bld...
By way of Twitter and the Hudson grabbing all news as it immediately happens (Mad News Skillz!)...seems Funcom is rolling in a 20% reduction of staff. I will have more to say on this later based on some conversations I have seen on the Testlive forums and the main forums as well.

So, again, the loss is minimal (about 10%), and hardly noticeable. Now, these numbers may seem low, but it is because I am purposely choosing "long view" scenes. The distance in this game is huge and causes massive slowdowns depending on what is in the view (the example here is water. Bogs down...

I had been looking forward to Aion for awhile now since I heard a lot of good reviews from people who participated in the beta tests. The combat looked similar to World of Warcraft with a couple of additions like "combo chains" to make things a bit more interesting. Also the mobs and artwork loo...
Age of Conan is the ONLY MMO on the market that is 100% DX10 compliant (note: uses all features...DDO does not, LOTRO does not...not even EvE). And yet, it is still in "test" mode (lol). As we all know, Age of Conan really runs like a dog at times, and at other times runs very well. My plan is to find out what sweet spots for settings work for each of these PC's. All I have to say though is..."Thanks sheeples" as you have made it possible for NCSoft to now finish up Guild Wars 2 and really put some polish in. I can go back to Age of Conan and enjoy just a little more in regards to unique gameplay. And eventually we will see players go back to WoW...but for now, and t...
Compared to the hype and disappointment cycle from last year for Age of Conan and Warhammer Online, maybe the muted reaction of MMORPG players this year is a more reasonable one. But I get a certain vibe that the MMORPG market is so saturated now, that nothing much excites players any more. Ma...
What interests me is maybe discussing some of the things going on in game. For example, economy and what is selling, not selling and maybe selling prices (a very harsh point right now, as due to some stupidities, some players continue to crash the market..). Maybe a discussion on some of the mai...
I really got flustered about a month ago over the MMO industry as a whole. I just could not see any reason to discuss these games, as the developers and the people who talk about these games all really turned into idiots. Recently though, I have noticed that as I think about taking a break from Ag...
Not so fast! It turns out that this curve is not quite as universal as Raph thought. Both Age of Conan and Warhammer Online announced huge box sale numbers, but then lost up to three quarters of their subscribers in the first month! Warhammer Online for example sold over a million copies, but...
I started out playing video games on systems with names like Sega, 3DO and Playstation before it had a number after the name. (I could ride the nostalgia train back to the 1970s when "videogames" only had text and a friend showed off a brand new game called "pong" but that is another story). By t...
Having committed to this path, I must do everything in my power to hunt down Thoth Amon and his minions, with all the strength I can muster. His death is paramount to the safety of Hyboria!
Massively Speaking Episode 45 returns this week as a one-on-one interview with Glen "Famine" Swan, Funcom's Community Manager for Anarchy Online and Age of Conan. Shawn and Glen chat about the newest content patch introduced recently for AoC, as well as community management in general.
Filed under: Fantasy, Age of Conan, Patches, Crafting Okay, Funcom, we get it. You're deadly serious about fixing Age of Conan. First the beginnings of the PvP patch went live, 'Patch 2', giving players PvP XP and gear. Then we got to see the reworked notoriety system on Testlive, along with s...
4) The combat is repetitive. Sure, it looks better than in most MMOs, but that's only due to the quality of the animation of the player characters. The actual combat system is average, from what I've seen of it. I'm not saying that the standard MMO combat model is particularly good, either, but...
Finally, onto the combat itself. From what I’ve read, the game’s combat is somewhat slower than in other MMOs, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I’d have to play it myself become I commented more on it, but don’t expect to be see casters being killed in two seconds flat like they can be in o...
Age of Conan is probably the closest anyone will get to a WoW-killer at any point in the next couple of years. There are plenty of MMOs coming out, but few have garnered the attention and hype that Funcom (the company behind Anarchy Online) have with their latest effort - in fact, over a millio...
While I wish Gaute the best of luck in his new career - and speculation on where that will be will only cause fear in the collective MMO community - I think it’s safe to say that MMO’s probably aren’t your forte. That might be a bit harsh, but for those keeping count, that’s 0/2 for Mr. Godager - Ana...
Erling Ellingsen: I disagree with you that the game launched without a PvP system. You could PvP players from day one, both in mini-games, in the open world and in sieges. Of course he is writing about the Herald of Xotl, the class I played too. Scott says: "Age of Conan clearly has staked out a niche: people who like burning things. My suspicion is that this may be a fairly large niche." And my problem with AoC is probably that setting virtual people on fire only am...
I finally had a bit more time to play this weekend, and thus leveled my Age of Conan Herald of Xotl to level 30. I was looking forward to that, because the destiny quest which stopped at level 20 in Tortage continues at level 30. A friend of mine had the problem that his quest journal was full or som...
Age of Conan has also done some pretty impressive market jiu jitsu, whether intentional or not. The insanely high system specs limit their market to the PC gaming hardcore (at least until the Xbox 360 version is released). The mature environment (which, in addition to immolations, decapi...
So I'm not planning to take up SOE on their generous offer. There is a list of things I'd like to do in Age of Conan before unsubscribing from that again: see how the level 30+ destiny quest is, play the level 1-20 destiny quest line with other characters to see the story in a different angle, and...
As many of you know I was in the AoC beta where I only managed to get to lev 15 or so with my barbarian, but since last Thursday, when I finally managed to get a copy of the game, I’ve been battling it out in Hyborian and currently have a lev 20 Demonologist. To the delight of the Age of Conan development and community support team, a German metal band by the name of Linkin Purpz has produced a song all about, well, how much they love playing Age of Conan. Entitled Gods of War, it appears to be a melodic rant about the three principal deities of AoC,...

Age of Conan will reach between half a million and one million subscribers this year. Most of which will be ex-WoW players. A good number of them will have stopped playing WoW anyway, with or without AoC, but a couple of hundred thousand will be pushed over the edge and quit WoW for the prospect...
So up to now Age of Conan is a mixture of having fun and getting frustrated often, a feeling I know from many previous bugged game launches. AoC is "playable", but don't expect a high level of technical excellence and customer service.
The gates to Age of Conan open in just a few days from now and legions of adventurers can hardly wait to set foot on Hyborian soil. Many want to chose their future home (also known as 'Server') beforehand and we know the list below has been eagerly awaited.
So there you are, sitting at the AoC character creation screen. You've just installed the game, created your perfect character that you will be playing for the next few months or years, but now you stare blankly at the little box with the blinking cursor asking for your character name. Argh!
I did both single player instance (Tortage night) and multiplayer instance (Tortage day) quests. I didn’t do any PvP minigames having tried them in the stress tests which was enough for me. I liked the idea of the destiny quest and ultimately how well it was executed in single player RPG fash...
Via Massively I got the news that leveling a character from 1 to 80 in Age of Conan will take 250 hours on average. None of the quests in Tortage where particularly interesting– the usual kill this, pick up that sort of stuff. Some intrigue which at times I found engrossing. As a matter of fact, early on with the heavy single player RPG feel to it, I was beginning to get a bit of that Oblivion feel, but unfo...
This week has seen news across the MMOGosphere -- Age of Conan information, lots of City of Heroes and City of Villains information on upcoming Issue 12, the skinny on APB, and exclusives in Vanguard. Of course, added to this was the not-so-small media blitz by Blizzard with both Wrath of th...

What I did like in Age of Conan are the destiny quests in the single-player part of the game. For my first character, a Tempest of Set, they were not very class specific, I just had to kill stuff. But for my Barbarian, which is a rogue sub-class, I had several sneaking quests. The destiny quests ar...
As many MMO gamers already know, Age of Conan is boasting a new combat system unlike any other MMORPG out there. It is fast paced, action-oriented, and near-useless to the mage classes of the game. So where does that leave all the struggling magic-seekers during the beginnings of the game? P...
For one that has been generally a bit tired of fantasy MMORPG titles, Age of Conan feels different enough that it may be worth getting back into fantasy a bit - there are no elves, orcs or dwarves with beards or anyone called Legolass running around. Hopefully it stays that way later also.
The very first thing you need to know: if you are fearing a debacle, you can relax. There are many, many elements to Age of Conan that are polished and well-designed. Prospective players who have been looking forward to the game’s realtime combat can rest easy. Hyborean hopefuls looking for g...

As far as favourite goes, I’d say it’s a toss-up between Anarchy Online and Lord of the Rings Online. Special mention goes to Ultima Online : eight years later and still a memorable score. As far as upcoming MMO, it’s gotta be Age of Conan. Although, I really haven’t been following that many gam...
