No, I’ve not reengaged with Lord of the Rings Online — I can scarcely find the time to play the games I have now. Yet ever since Mines of Moria came out last fall, LOTRO’s been the Comeback Kid of the MMO crowd, and it’s gotten me thinking of why.

I finally completed about everything I could do at my level (except maybe the School instance) in Eregion. I had a blast with that new content, but now I was heading into the crown jewel of Lord of the Rings Online’s first expansion. At first, I really didn’t like it… but that changed.

I could choose which quests I wanted and leave the ones I couldn’t be bothered with which suits my nature. You can just run about exploring and/or killing monsters but that can get boring. Most of the quests are either killing stuff, finding items or people or a combination of the two. I foun...
