WAR Report

It would be fair to say that I have something like a love/hate relationship with Warhammer Online. On the one hand, I really do enjoy the gameplay that it provides, and on the other, I hate it that so much of its population funnels all of their play down one or two of those channels.

A Return to WAR

Since completing the move, my interest in playing WoW has been pretty low. Hopefully it’ll pick back up (I suspect it will,) but in the meantime I decided to activate a Warhammer Online time card that I’d been siting on for quite a while, having picked it up on the cheap from Circuit City’s goi...

AoC, WAR and the Choad Factor

I think that Age of Conan is flatly a better game than Warhammer, because I have decided that I personally prefer a variety of experiences within an MMO. I enjoy PvP as one element of play, but I also enjoy PvE, crafting, instances, atmosphere, and other dimensions of exploring the game worl...

Engaging Atmosphere

But it’s not just the passive input from visuals and audio - the mind has the be stimulated as well, and this is where the content comes in. It has to be interesting, obviously, which may or may not mean that there’s a big “story’ to follow - although I think that can help if it’s done well (AoC, Lo...

Looking at Numbers

Commentary on the recent announcement of Warhammer Online subscribers is HERE, HERE and HERE. I more or less agree with all three analyses; it’s a disappointing number only insofar as it’s reflected in the prelaunch hype and the projections of staunch partsians.

A Forced Break From WAR, and Progress in EVE

The upcoming work trip will keep me from mucking with Warhammer Online for as long as I'm gone - which is currently scheduled to be two weeks, but these things often turn into longer trips than expected. Last summer's sojurn to Saltillo was supposed to have been two weeks and ended up being si...

WAR Burnout?

Thumbnail So what will come of this? Will I stick with WAR or EVE, or will I try to juggle both? Hell if I know, but at this point I'm not committed to either beyond the period that's already lined up, about two weeks in each. According to Xfire, I spent 36 hours over the past seven days playing Warhammer Onl...

Opinion: It's Launch Day

I am enjoying World RvR more than the scenarios, for reason I’m still in the process of pinning down. I’m sure I’ll talk about that at some point. I plan to keep doing it in Nordland until level 12, when I’ll turn into a chicken; hopefully as we push more characters into Tier 2 we’ll be up for an att...

Warhammer Online Walkthrough, Part One

So say you complete the first couple of quests and poke around in the Tome of Knowledge for a few minutes. The quests themselves will lead you around, moving you from area to area to pick up new quests. By the time you reach level 3 or so, the natural progression should take you into a Public Quest...

Opinion: WAR Open Beta: Final Analysis

The standout feature of WAR is RvR; this is not something new, but it's a feature attractive enough to deserve a modern showcase, and WAR gives it that. The Tome of Knowledge is nice and the game’s biggest real innovation, Public Quests, are clever and fun, but neither is going to be a make-or...

An Evening with Warhammer Online’s Open Beta

The character models are not bad, but not really impressive, either. The range of hairstyles available is pretty narrow and, in my judgment, none of them are all that great-looking. Animations are so-so, and lack a tactle feeling of blades and bodies clashing in combat, despite auto-faci...

Breaking Down Warhammer's Epic Fail

On a recent podcast a certain commentator I happen to respect and admire a great deal talked about how confident he was that Mythic would do WAR right and not release it until it was really done. Now it's come out that, in order to be able to pronounce it "done," Mythic has had to stop working on f...
