Wii Wii (wiiwii.tv) has great Wii news, photos, videos and more
DQV is widely regarded as one of the best in the series, and should whet appetites nicely for the forthcoming release of Dragon Quest IX, which hits Japan very soon. Expect a similarly flowery subtitle when that one eventually reaches the west.
A dispute over the design of its wireless nunchuk hasn’t put Nyko off making peripherals for the Wii, and its latest is a particularly bold move - taking on the Wii remote with its new Wand device. It’s pretty ugly, though part of that is undoubtedly down to the company needing to differentia...
“Sony’s PS3 is a wonder of the world, with two astounding new technologies inside, the multi-threading Cell computer chip and the new generation Blu-Ray Disc; the Xbox 360 is a powerful computer in its own right; but the much lower-tech Nintendo Wii is a lot more fun than either of them.If o...
In his latest post - after several others claiming he doesn’t want to ‘hurt’ Nintendo - has this to say: I’m sure Nintendo is taking his request even more seriously now. Because it often allows crazy people to develop for its consoles.
Of all the games in the New Play Control range, Mario Power Tennis looks like it’ll be the one to benefit most from a motion control makeover, and given the success of Wii Sports tennis, stands a strong chance of being the biggest hit of the bunch.
If nothing else, small indie developer Semnat Studios has come up with the most stupidly brilliant game name of 2009 already, but Eduardo the Samurai Toaster has more than just a daft title to recommend it. Its art style, for starters, is pretty unusual - a mix of pen & ink, acrylic paint...
The press release has a release date of ‘winter’, so it should be with us by the end of February at the latest. Will Eduardo be the toast of WiiWare? I’ll let you know as soon as it arrives. © Shiny Media - visit Wii Wii for more great content. Bookmark to:
2008 got off to a solid start for Wii and DS owners, but was ultimately slightly disappointing, particularly for core gamers. 2009 is perhaps looking a little better, with a number of titles aimed at non-casual players already lined up for release, and potentially a few big hits due later i...
It’s surprising that Nintendo hasn’t yet announced a Wii version of the 1080 Snowboarding games, though it wouldn’t entirely surprise me if we see a balance board-enhanced Wii-make of Avalanche rather than a brand new title. With Shaun White offering a decent alternative to Wii Fit’s wi...
It’s taken quite a while for Wii to really make waves among developers and publishers, but with such big names talking up the console and the userbase continuing to grow, surely it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing a wave of quality third-party software on Wii. I think late 2009 w...
Fragile is out in Japan on January 22nd. Let’s hope for a good Famitsu review and decent sales, as that would certainly make a western release that bit more likely. Alas, it seems to me that it’ll be one of those games that’s warmly embraced by a small niche audience, with only Japanese gamers...
It’s no exaggeration to say that Wii Sports is one of the most important videogame releases, not just of this generation, but of all time. It introduced a whole new way to play games, offered a way in to those who’d previously considered games too complex or inacccessible, and is one of the ma...
Couple that with the load times as you enter and exit each building - astonishing in this day and age where consoles can stream huge open-world landscapes - and the laggy menus, the occasionally clunky and inconsistent mechanics (I can sell several items at once, but only order one item...
Books - knowledge-enhancing, life-enriching, train-journey-killing books. They might make you look pretty clever if you’ve got a hundred of the buggers lined up on your shelves, but unless you’re some kind of neat-freak, they’re bound to gather a fair bit of dust. To save those of us wit...
While it’s found plenty of fans, Wii Music has undoubtedly divided audiences - more so than Nintendo expected, as evidenced by the latest Iwata Asks - a rare post-release round-table discussion about the game. There’s an interesting introductory segment where Miyamoto talks about his...
That said, it’s brighter news on the hardware front, with both DSi and Wii performing well. Indeed, including DS Lite sales, Nintendo’s handheld sold a quarter of a million units, over 100,000 more than the PSP, which was buoyed by the amazing sales of Dissidia Final Fantasy in the softwar...
Fun! Fun! Minigolf is perhaps the most convincing argument yet for a Wii storage solution and an upping of the size limit of WiiWare games. In its current state it’s more of a playable demo than a complete game, and at 900 points is really not worth the bother. I’ll give developer Shin’en - crea...
EA has done what’s known in the trade as a Roman Bednar, sneakily nodding home a never-saw-that-coming winner in injury time to steal the top slot in the All-Formats Top 40 from Call of Duty: World at War and Mario Kart Wii in third. It’s a moral victory for Nintendo’s mascot, though, as he was...
To all extents and purposes it’s a GameCube game. It doesn’t have particularly good graphics, nor does it make any use of the Wii remote’s pointer functions (surely that could have been included as an optional control scheme?) and it’s best played with a Classic Controller - or, better sti...
I’ll be the first to admit that Wii hasn’t had the best year ever. Nintendo has tested large sections of its core fanbase this year - certainly in the last six months - with very few first-party titles which appealed to a non-casual audience. While Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl - amo...
Time for the Wii list now then, and this time I’m doing things a little differently. As we’re a UK-based site, I’m only going to pick titles that were released in the PAL region this year. Meaning that a couple of games on here I actually played in 2007, but given that the Wii isn’t [...]
Basically, the best controls on the DS since Phantom Hourglass. Gaiden might not have seemed a natural fit for the handheld (and indeed its sales seem to suggest that potential purchasers dismissed it for that very reason), but Dragon Sword is a bit of a corker. It’s a little repetitive at ti...
Highlights, then? On the Wii list there’s confirmation of the release dates for the first two New Play Control Range (formerly Play It On Wii/ Wii de Asobu) - the Wii-make of Pikmin will hit European shores on February 6th, while Mario Power Tennis arrives a little later, in March.

Anyway, between two and four players can play either through wireless communication or the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection - the latter can involve any combination of Wii and DS hardware, while the former allows up to four DS users to connect wirelessly, or you can have one Wii hosting thr...
Next week I’ll be running the top ten Wii and DS games of the year, but today seems as good a time as any to pick my top five WiiWare games. Launching in May, Nintendo’s service has provided a steady stream of content - not all of it good, but there have been plenty of [...]
It’s a shame this wasn’t bundled with the Wii, as it would have offered a great social option from the outset. As it is, Nintendo will do well to make its audience more aware of this, as it’s a function which will no doubt appeal outside the core gamer demographic.
Elsewhere, lovely lovely Wii Music hangs on in there at seven, only just outsold by PS3 big-hitter Resistance 2 in the latter’s launch week. Does this mean the British public has taken Miyamoto’s latest creation under its collective wing? Let’s hope it does better over here than in the US a...

Interesting interview on MTV Multiplayer with EA’s Peter Moore (formerly, you may recall, of Microsoft) who’s been discussing the problems with selling sports titles on Wii. © Shiny Media - visit Wii Wii for more great content. Bookmark to:
I’ve not had much chance to check out the social aspect of the game, with no-one I know owning the game just yet, thus leaving me unable to visit other villages for the time being. But from what Nintendo says, it’s likely that animals will react to your presence in other villages in a more convi...
We’re finally starting to see evidence that third-parties are taking the Wii versions of their multiformat releases much more seriously, with a host of winter titles offering motion-enhanced experiences which don’t compare too unfavourably on the less-powerful console to its HD ri...
A bundle containing Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City and a Wii Speak microphone will retail for around 59 pounds, according to Eurogamer. The game on its own will cost 39 pounds, while the microphone on its own will set you back 25 pounds. If you haven't seen it before, the Wii Speak microp...
05. [NDS] Wagamama Fashion Girls Mode (Nintendo) 40,000 / 117,000 06. [NDS] Rhythm Tengoku Gold (Nintendo) 39,000 / 1,089,000 08. [NDS] Personal Trainer: Walking (Nintendo) 26,000 / NEW 10. [PSP] Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (PSP the Best) (Capcom) 26,000 / NEW
Disaster: Day of Crisis apparently didn’t even reach the top 50 Wii games on release week, let alone the all-formats charts. Hardly surprising, seeing as Nintendo didn’t seem to want anyone to know it existed. I’ve already given my opinion on the game, but in case you don’t trust my ravings,...
“Ostensibly all too simplistic, Wii Music is undoubtedly a product with significant hidden depths. When you consider that each and every song needs to cater for any potential controller input at any time, you begin to realise that this is no throwaway plaything, but an elegantly designe...
It’s an addictive little bugger of a game, and its art style (you says the title, you wins the prize) is oddly charming in a colourful if slightly sterile way. The robotic voice commentary is amusing - “launch orange, eliminated” - particularly when it says “great” and “awesome” when you ch...

No word on a PAL launch for its Wii cousin, Tree of Tranquility, which our US brethren are enjoying at the moment. Hopefully it’s a mere matter of time before we hear more about that one. © Shiny Media - visit Wii Wii for more great content. Bookmark to:
No real surprise there, then. Except for the fact that Nintendo hasn’t had any really major software releases, and it’s still pulling in figures of 600,000 - that’s twice the 360’s estimated total of 300,000, and more than three times PS3’s paltry sum of 175,000 consoles shifted. It’ll be i...
3. If you’ve not done so already, download Art Style CUBELLO and Art Style ORBIENT from the Wii Shop Channel. 7. Play. 12. Petition Nintendo to get more games like this on the WiiWare service. 13. Petition Nintendo to buy up 2D Boy so they can create more works of genius on Wii (and maybe even DS).
5. Excite Truck - MetaCritic average 72 Who got it right? Official Nintendo Magazine - “Konami’s willingness to put the Wii’s controls to good use without making a gimmick-laden game pays off once again - Dewy is great fun.” © Shiny Media - visit Wii Wii for more great content. Bookmark to:
Game wisely keep it sensible. Their second cheapest bundle has the Wii Play and extra Wiimote for £218. Which is sensible since you’re most likely going to get a second controller anyway, until you realise it’s more expensive than buying Wii Play separately online. Standing above that, Gam...
Let’s kick off the week with this elegant and stylish case mod for the SNES. An anonymous engineer took their old console and made it portable, adding a screen, sound system, and a headphone jack. Looks lovely, though we’re racking our brains to think of a pun with which to end this post. “Morni...
